(MP3 Podcast on www.ParisDJs.com) 2016-07-30

Italy-born but Denmark-based Alex Puddu is an outstanding composer of soundtracks and a new millennium Funk revivalist with a variety of styles and moods under his belt. He's released 3 albums with Puddu Varano between 1998 and 2001, 5 albums between 2004 and 2010 as Alex Puddu And The Butterfly Collectors, one album with The Moonfires in 2015, and no less than 6 albums under his own guise since 2010! We picked the Joe Bataan-featuring track from his 'Soultiger' project in the latest Paris DJs compilation, 'Heavyweight Gambit, No Holds Barred!' released october 2015, since then he's put out the Italian funk LP 'In The Eye Of The Cat', and there's already a new one coming in the fall: 'The Golden age of Danish Pornography Volume 3'!! We'll try to get ahold of the man for an interview soon, meanwhile here's an Alex Puddu hot mix of rare grooves, funk and latin soul, picked exclusively for Paris DJs with loveā€¦

Paris DJs Soundsystem presents 1978 - Standards, Versions and Revamps Vol.19
(MP3 Podcast on www.ParisDJs.com) 2016-04-17

Damn things are not getting easier as I'm approaching the 1980s. In 1978 there's just SO MUCH of disco in the groovy records. There's also a vast amount of punk and pop/rock released of course, but that's not really what we're about in this series of mixes here. 1978 was not that bad a year, I could list many classic albums out by the likes of Frank Zappa, Elvis Costello, Bob Marley, Little Feat, The Band, Talking Heads, Rick James, Kraftwerk, Herbie Hancock, Chic, Devo, The Clash or even Sun Ra, for example, but the main event is clearly happening on the P-Funk side of things, with great LPs from Funkadelic, Parliament, Brides Of Funkenstein, Parlet , Bernie Worrell or Bootsy Collins, all released in 1978. You'll feel it in this selection of cool covers from the year, which includes P-Funk spin off act Parlet covering Parliament-Funkadelic vocalist Fuzzy Haskins' "Cookie Jar" (later recorded by Prince), R&B/soul group The Dells covering Parliament's "All Your Goodies Are Gone", and funk band Platinum Hook covering Funkadelic's "Standing On The Verge Of Getting It On". Definitively, 1978 was the year of the P!!
