Lay down, close your eyes, and prepare yourself to travel from the USA to Nigeria, Togo and Europe with a 30mn rainbow of African soundscapes. Heavily featured here is Adrian Quesada who's been baffling us in 2008 with his afro-latin productions with Martin Perna (Antibalas) as Ocote Soul Sounds, as well as with his latin band Grupo Fantasma... We also love the Lighting Head album - you might remember the man from his dubbed Rockers Hi-Fi records or under his Biggabush alias... Completing this mix are rarities from Analog Africa, from Kon and Amir on BBE, french library stuff and a well-titled King Sunny Ade track.

Paris DJs Soundstem - Latin Dance Party
(MP3 Podcast on www.ParisDJs.com) T.I.M.E.C., 2009-02-11

What started as a 21st Century Latin selection ended like this: latin + dance = party! As usual, we tried to dig deep into our (latin) stacks, bringing a rare Michael Ray (from the Sun Ra Arkestra) track from 10 years ago featuring a blistering solo from Trey Anastasio (Phish), a killer Irakere cover from Grupo Fantasma, some nice bootie business from Me and You (Tru Thoughts), a jazz stormer from The Hi-Fly Orchestra... and many more supergroovy latin goodies!

Loik - Afro Dope
Loik - Afro Dope
(MP3 Podcast on www.ParisDJs.com) Kraked, 2009-02-08

A mix coming from web-digging sessions, thanks to the passion and culture of a few people, one may discover today unkwown pearls which any other way would be reserved for rich collectors (I won't dare to imagine the price of the 'African Fiesta' 45). 70s African music beating prices records on E-bay these days, we only have labels like Soundway, Kona, Analog Africa, Honest Jon's, Strut, etc. and their amazing compilations...

In order to dig deeper, go back up to the source and find information, we'd advise to begin with those must-not-miss four Blogs (of course sound is sometimes not that prefect but frankly there are bombs in there). Maximum respect.

Pierre Wax - Airything Else Part 1
Pierre Wax - Airything Else Part 1
(MP3 Podcast on www.ParisDJs.com) 2009-02-04

Pierre Wax discovers disco as a teen without knowing at the time that it was disco. He's been digging the trail ever since, widening it with hip hop, electro-funk, mid-tempo Italo, some jazz also, with a recurring handclaps background. Pierre is now part of the Goldrush crew and runs with his accomplice Guido the booking for the Panic Room venue in Paris (where we run the monthly Paris DJs parties). He's presenting here a chillout mix, with hip hop, jazz, soul and funk colors. A different mix, an aerial one, perfectly sequenced. A kind of magnificently magnificent miracle for your earphones. Two words spring to my mind: "thanks" and "more"!
