Paris DJs Soundsystem presents Steven Bernstein - A Trumpet's Life pt.1

Paris DJs Soundsystem presents Steven Bernstein - A Trumpet's Life pt.1
(MP3 Podcast on www.ParisDJs.com) 2011-08-31

I distinctly remember discovering Steven Bernstein's incredible trumpet playing and arranging through one of his bands, Sex Mob and their album Din of Inequity, which included some John Medeski featurings and hard-to-believe covers of Prince, John Barry, Paul McCartney and a few others. It was the end of the 90s and France was as lost musically as it is today, with musical ignorance reigning supreme. Things have been slowly evolving thanks to independent medias such as Paris DJs (and djouls.com before) who always had the will to defend incredible artists you've quite never heard of. So here's the first part of our introduction to this amazing musican and arranger, a 40mn eclectic jazz mix, out there and for everyone at the same time... We've also published an interview (in english or french); we can't urge you enough not to miss the Sly Stone tribute show in Paris on sept 11, opening for Medeski, Martin and Wood; we'll publish the second part of this mix in a month, right on spot for the release of the new album MTO plays Sly; and Steven Bernstein should back later this year for a third mix cooked by the man himself - how's that for an introduction?

Mike Rivard (Club d'Elf) - The Trance Mix

Mike Rivard (Club d'Elf) - The Trance Mix
(MP3 Podcast on www.ParisDJs.com) 2011-08-21

"The crux of Moroccan music is trance. Trance as a quality in music has always attracted me, whether it's an extended James Brown cut, or something by Fela or Steve Reich. I've always sought out music that allows you to forget where and who you are and to break free from the mind's constant chatter", bassist and Club d'Elf founder Mike Rivard said once. Club d'Elf has just released a new and stunning double-album, Electric Moroccoland/So Below (Face Pelt), where jazz, freeform improvisation, rock psychedelia, glitchy turntablism and North African trance melt in one single cauldron. This unexpected Trance Mix brings together the band's friends and musicians and its main influences. Besides, we publish a nice interview of Mike to go along with the mix and a short portrait. Pack and be prepared to reach mystical unknown soundscapes!

Le Mellotron - From Jazz To Hip Hop

Le Mellotron - From Jazz To Hip Hop
(MP3 Podcast on www.ParisDJs.com) 2011-08-16

It's not news and even less an insult to say that hip-hop drew from the jazz catalog to build its empire. Le Mellotron picks in the hidden side of its Original Samples to deliver to their friends of Paris DJs a mix made up essentially of jazz tracks, dust-cleaned by the hip-hop movement, and quite often magnificiently emphasized. Will you be able to find which fantastic diggers went on a quest for the perfect sample that led them to the tracks played in this mix? We're letting you wonder… Answers will be published early september.

Reponse debut septembre.
