Our first guest comes from Russia, with love of course but also a selection of impossible-to-find Soviet Russia grooves. Here's the first half hour, with a 'Part 2' coming up quite soon, and a little introduction specially written by our host of the week, Ivan Tchizhevsky: 'Welcome to Ivan Tchizhevsky podcast! This mix was recorded in Moscow (Russia) and it is a compilation of old records released in the Soviet Union during the 1970s. It is hard to underestimate the effort of musicians who produced those records because at that time it was a question of working really hard to release something worth listening. Not only the poorer technology complicated the process, but the Communist party strong ideological control gave musicians a substantial pain in the ass as well. It was a multi-level vigilance by editors on various stages of production which filtered off everything that would not correspond with soviet ideology. Moreover, because of the 'Iron Curtain' musicians in the USSR could not get necessary information about the ultimate tendencies in contemporary music. We can only guess how many excellent records were suppressed by the communist censors. The advanced music styles like jazz and funk were considered being 'vices of the West' and the Party bosses liked ballet more than music. However, this mix represents only a microscopic part of vast amount of great records made in the Soviet Union. These records could be considered as a cultural heritage which yet has to be discovered (or rediscovered) by music-lovers all over the world.' Ivan Tchijevsky

Viennent ensuite quelques valeurs sures du groove egyptien, dansant, pop ou bluesy, avec Ali Hassan Kuban, Mohamed Mounir et Amr Diab. VISIT WWW.PARISDJS.COM for more exclusive MP3 Downloads!!! Paris DJs Soul Soundsytem - Cee-Lo Is The One (MP3 Podcast on ParisDJs.com) T.I.M.E.C. TIMEC118, 2006-08-20 Info : We've been listening to Cee-Lo Green's music for years now, and after being astonished by his vocal prowesses on recent TV shows (MTV, Jools Holland, etc), we couldn't resist a well-deserved tribute. A member of Atlanta hip hop act Goodie Mob in the second half of the 90s, he's then started successful solo career with many singles, two superb albums in 2002 and 2004, and numerous collaborations and vocal featurings: with Outkast, their Dungeon Family collective, Common, Twista, Trick Daddy, De La Soul, Rhazel, Black-Eyed Peas... The list goes on and on and recently culminated with his Gnarls Barkley combination, with 'Grey Album' guy Danger Mouse, and their worldwide hit-single 'Crazy' (which you must have heard by now if you weren't lost on some stupid island for months for some reason). Cee-Lo started as a rapper, but he's also an incredible funk and soul singer, a producer and a songwriter. Weird and colorful, drenched into p-funk and soul, high-pitched and sometimes toon-ish, his voice is unique. Some would say that's too much talent in just one guy. We say Cee Lo is the one. Tracklisting : 01. Gianfranco and Gianpiero Reverberi - Nel Cimitero Di Tucson (intro) (from 'Preparati La Bara!' original soundtrack, 1968 / RCA) vs Cee-Lo - One For The Road (intro) (from 'Cee-Lo Green And His Perfect Imperfections' album, 2002 / Arista) 02. Grant Phabao and Djouls - African Mashed Potato Popcorn Vol.2 (MP3 Podcast on ParisDJs.com) T.I.M.E.C. TIMEC114, 2006-07-31 Info : Our second volume of afro grooves from around the world gathers some rare Nigerian funk from the Ikenga Super Stars Of Africa, The Funkees, One World and Ofege. You can now go hunting for the LPs on Ebay... We've also stumbled upon an incredible UK pressing of an LP called "The Body Music" from a band called Afro Funk which we think is from Ghana. If you have more info on this please share it with us cos' those african beats & soul have been playing repeatedly on our stereo for days now! Oddities come from Karl Denson, former sax player from late 90's US retro-funk band The Greyboy Allstars, the closing track from his fire-smoking funk album "the Bridge" from 2004 is an afrobeat monster we couldn't not play. For vinyl addicts, the track is available on a glorious 12 inch thanks to Adrian Gibson's Freestyle Records little label (UK). You will also hear that we've been diggin deep in our own crates, with "Wilderness", a track from Manu Dibango issued on a rare 1972 library album... and then reissued by our friend Manu Boubli on the mighty "Racubah" compilation. The mix closes with a sunny piece of African pop from Ghanean Kelenkye Band that should leave you eargerly waiting for a third volume of "African Mashed Potato Popcorn"... coming soon on your favorite Podcast! The Lone Ranger - Dub Salvador - A Grant Phabao Mix (MP3 Podcast on ParisDJs.com) T.I.M.E.C. TIMEC078, 2006-04-07 Info : The Lone Ranger is one of Jamaica's most influential early dancehall DJs. He was twice voted No 1 deejay on the island, in 1979 and 1980. He helped pioneer a newly rhythmic, on-the-beat rhyming style that led DJ toasting into the modern age, and punctuated his lyrics with bizarre exclamations and sound effects ("bim" and "ribbit" were his favorites) that made him perhaps the most imaginative stylist of his time. Without Lone Ranger, no Yellowman, no Shabba Ranks, no Sean Paul... Thanks to the incredible production skills of French dubmeister Grant Phabao, who crafted for him a splendid album last year ("Kulchaklash" / to be pronounced "Culture Clash"), The Lone Ranger is now back on the charts, with rub-a-dub partner Carlton Livingston and their cover of Dandy Livingston's hit "(A Message To You) Rudie". This new single is making waves all over the irie globe on a strictly limited edition 12 inch (500 copies only!), issued on T.I.M.E.C./The Pusher in Europe (with both extended and dub remixes), and on an already out-of-print 7 inch, issued on Silver Bullet in Jamaica. This marvelous slice of pure jamaican spice is a winning crowd-pleaser sure to hit the spot every time, we couldn't let it out of this exclusive mix of oldies, rarities and classics, so... enjoy! Grant Phabao and Djouls - African Mashed Potato Popcorn Vol.1 (MP3 Podcast) T.I.M.E.C. TIMEC095, 2006-02-21 Info : Don't be misled by the calm and tripping opening Kenyan track from Mombasa, which is just an introduction to the afro grooves that are offered afterwards. After this, you may then embark on a tribalistic trip to Nigeria, with afrofunk marvels from the Ikenga Super Stars Of Africa (find the album!), Nkengas, and The Apostles. Your voyage will also visit South Africa, with 70's afropop oddities by Jabula and Assagai, and Cameroon, with the afro space jazz of Franck Biyong and Massak. In order to be accurate in this mashed mix of various afro meals, we also couldn't leave you without another slice of Antibalas magic, who are, along with frenchman Doctor L, leading the now worldwide afrobeat scene into the 21st century with an undeniable, exceptional, revolutionnary and graceful talent for going forward. Loik - Charles Is The One Vol.1 (MP3 Podcast on www.ParisDJs.com) Kraked, 2006-03-10 Charles Stepney is still a rather obscure name, even though he's one of the major contributors to black music's evolution in the 60's and 70's. And yet if you search on the Net you can only find 2 fuzzy photographs of the Man. That's why we thought we could, with this podcast, lay a first stone for the pyramid he rightfully deserves, the monument which us, real Soul lovers, ought to built for him. Vibraphonist, then arranger and one genius of a producer: The Dells, Muddy Waters, Rotary Connection, Earth Wind & Fire, Deniece Williams, he is the one who discovered the angelic Minnie Ripperton and the soulful Terry Callier when he was producer for the cult chicagoan label Cadet. Stepney is all about the orchestrations and arrangements, with their completely unique psychedelic flamboyance. Check here his version of 'Dear Prudence' (the Beatles) by Ramsey Lewis or the brilliant 'Black Gold' from Phil Upchurch. You'll get what I'm talking about. Thus let's make a star of him on the same level as Axelrod and other worshipped producers from the 70's. May the name and work of Charles Stepney spread itself on the webs out there and give inspiration to all cos Ain't No Doubt About It: Charles is the one!! Links : A cool bio: wholecircleround.co.uk Downbeat Magazine, November 26, 1970: "For The Record: Charles Stepney" by Edwin Black Tracklisting : 01. CHECK THE BLOG: WWW.PARISDJS.COM !!! Filled with beautiful and exclusive artwork, photos, playlist, and more surprises!! This week it's party time with... Loik - West Indies Vintage Funk (MP3 Podcast on ParisDJs.com) Kraked, 2006-02-06 Info : True French digging - it's not in L.A. that this one could have been laid to you! Rare and unexpected vinyls, Funk directly from from Haiti, Cuba, the Barbados, Belize, the Antilles and even a peel of Jamaica. A Homage also to the superb label work from Isma'a or BNO who keep on seeking the graals of a groove which without their passion would be too often forgotten. Go now "ROULE" like the mythical hit from La Perfecta says, which devastated all the West-Indian dancefloors in the 70's. Grant Phabao & Djouls - Are Molesting Laura Vol.4 (MP3 Podcast) T.I.M.E.C. TIMEC093, 2006-01-18 Info : "Are Molesting Laura Vol.4", yes, it's already the fourth volume of the adventures of Grant Phabao & Djouls in the regions of the strange music, unreal covers, bastard pop and new remixes! After a first one available only on the p2p, with a surprising bootleg of Roots Manuva and Serge Gainsbourg, a second volume diffused on Radio Latina in the form of a latin-delirious selection of tracks, a third volume to download in here with its unmissable bootleg of Grand Master Flash vs Mel Brooks (with bits of Beastie boys in it), here's a number four that'll rank among the crustiest, with three bootlegs chosen with intensive care out of an explosive outburst of creative production that comes from all over the world (for the DJs greatest pleasure). The entry is signed by a Parisian who goes by the Dopplebanger guise, it's an extremely well crafted immediate bootleg of the just out "Can I Have It Like That" from Pharrell (N.E.R.D./Neptunes) with the "Can I Kick It?" from A Tribe Called Quest (1994). A future classic, followed by a series of covers and remixes rather crazy, sometimes mad and often funky as hell, to finally end up with two tasty bootlegs, a "classico" to begin with, opposing Primal Scream's crossover hit "Loaded" with Rae & Christian featuring The Jungle Brothers's "Play One", extracted from their first album; and for dessert a whole new bootleg, very exclusive, only for you, can you imagine how nice we are, clashing without an ounce of shame Kinny & Horne's "Why Me" with Max Romeo's "Chase The Devil". For the historians the Horne in Kinny & Horne is Espen Horne which could be found in the "Are Molesting Laura Vol.3" mix available recently on ParisDJs, he was before called himself Bobby Hugues Combination (for Stereo Deluxe records) or Bobby Hugues Experience (afor Ultimate Dillema)... (for those interested check his complete discography). Tracklisting : 01. Dopplebanger - Can I Kick It Like That "Can I Have It Like That" by Pharrell (from "Can I Have It Like That" CD-Single, 2006, EMI) vs "Can I Kick It? (Extended Boilerhouse Mix)" by A Tribe Called Quest (from "Oh My god" 12inch, 1994, Jive) 02. Esso Trinidad Steelband - I Want You Back Jackson 5 cover (from "Same" LP, 1971, Warner Bros.) 03. Mooch - My Spider Walks Again Mooch is an alias for a famous Tru Thoughts artist... Spot the sample! (from "My Spider Walks Again" 7inch on Jack To Phono, 2005) 04. Unknown Schoolhouse Band - In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida (intro) Iron Butterfly cover (from "Schoolhouse Funk II" compilation, 2005, Cali-Tex) 05. Molesting Laura - Why Me Chase Kinny & Horne "Why Me (A Capella)" (from "Us On Fire" 12inch, 2005, Tru Thoughts) vs Max Romeo "Chase The Devil (instr)" (from 7inch, 1976, Charmax Music) Selected by Djouls, mixed by Grant Phabao (T.I.M.E.C.)
