Thu, 2 July 2009 ![]() Loik - Afro Diggin' (MP3 Podcast on www.ParisDJs.com) Kraked, 2009-07-02 Africa is a wonderful song from Bob Pinodo, famous for bringing the gospel vibes to Ghana, a must in soulful breakbeat Afro vibes. Osima - Waouh!! This is pure delight from Rex lawson, one of the fathers of Highlife, an instant classic to my ears, with amazing classy drumming and a haunting melody, this is a masterpiece no less! Ise Owo is Apala Soul and I want more!! A dancefloor bomb from the master of nigerian saxophone, Orlando Julius. You Are The One is a special crossover of Soul, Disco, Latin and Afrobeat with a strong statement. It could be an anthem on any afrogroovy dancefloor. Deep & catchy music from Tony Grey. I fell in love with Show Me Your Love by the Opamanbuo International Band Of Ghana. With its haunting guitar licks and irresistible voice, it throws my blues away and makes me feel good. I hope you'll enjoy it as much as I do. All those are really rare records coming straight from Africa, so clicks and background noise are numerous, even with all the love we gave them. But all those songs need to be rediscovered, and often vinyl is the only testimony left. So let's hope you'll enjoy the ride - and don't worry there are more to come... (Loik) Tracklisting : 01. Thu, 28 May 2009 ![]() Paris DJs Soundsystem presents Hypnotic Brass Ensemble (MP3 Podcast on www.ParisDJs.com) 2009-05-29 This Hypnotic Brass Ensemble blew my mind the first time I heard them. I had seen some videos on YouTube but was finally able to grab two copy of their War/Mercury 10 inch at a local record store (thank you to the kind people selling Jazz and World at Gibert Joseph in Paris!)... The spare one went into the hands of Pierre from Souljazz Orchestra who got to see them onstage a few days after, opening for Mos Def in Amsterdam. He told me they totally stole the show, which I'm sure they did! Listening to their rare self-released albums (on CDR you can buy at their shows) or concert that are circulating on the Internet (you gotta check the one with Tony Allen!) can only mean one thing: the Hypnotic Brass Ensemble is currently one of the few killer live bands out there!! Sat, 23 May 2009 ![]() Paris DJs Soundsystem - Nearly Shadow (MP3 Podcast on www.ParisDJs.com) 2009-05-23 We've been cooking this mix for a long time, selecting its pieces slowly, one by one... The idea was to collect tracks that were obviously or not-so-obviously influenced by Dj Shadow's masterpiece and first album (on the defunct Mo' Wax label), Endtroducing. Some names spring to mind instantly, like Rjd2 (featured here), but we've tried to dig into many places, from the forgotten (DJ Bias of Lewis Parker fame, J-Walk who's second album will happen soon on Peacefrog, Manitoba now called Caribou), to the unknown in Europe (Mnemotrauma, Joe Beats from Non Prophets who's albums are just fantastic and who we had picked up for our This Is The New Hip Hop Thing CD compilation) and the bigger names (Gnarls Barkley). No Blockhead, no Wax Taylor, no DJ Cam, no UNKLE, no Diplo, no Aim... There surely are many other artists who've given props to that first Dj Shadow album and if you've got suggestions for a second volume don't hesitate to leave a comment! Tracklisting : 01. Wed, 6 May 2009 ![]() Paris DJs Soundsystem - Who Is Molesting Laura ? (part 5) (MP3 Podcast on www.ParisDJs.com) 2009-05-06 This is not your usual Molesting Laura mix. Of course, it's all covers, some easy to recognize, some others not that obvious... That's because we've been specially digging in our vaults of American modern jazz. The kind of your never hear about over the Atlantic. The trip will take you from downtown New York (Medeski Martin and Wood) to New Orleans (Dirty Dozen Brass Band), from Brooklyn (Marco Benevento) to Tulsa (Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey), from San Diego (The Greyboy Allstars) to Bridgeport (Fuzz), back to Brooklyn (Soulive), and from Harlem (The Harlem Experiment) to San Francisco (Garaj Mahal)... The Dirty Dozen Brass Band track is taken from their album produced by John Medeski, Buck Jump - New Orleans down home funky jazz at its best. The Marco Benevento one is from his 2009 album Me Not Me, an incredible set of covers done piano trio with sculpted sounds - with bassist Reed Mathis and drummers Matt Chamberlain and Andrew Barr, two of them being members of The Slip. Long-time readers will recognize them... Also, don't pass out on another piano trio, Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey, really mind-blowing. We've played a track from their latest album, Winterwood, which you can download for free on their site! Finally, this mix is an opportunity to talk about the Harlem Experiment album released on Ropeadope in 2007. It's just a monster album with the cream of NY uptown jazz musicians, fusing jazz, klezmer, salsa, soul, hip-hop and funk. One of the best new thing! we've heard this century. ![]() [comment faire?/how to?] Tracklisting : 01.
